Taizé Vespers
My first introduction to Taizé Vespers was on an ordinary Sunday evening at the Retreat House. A friend had suggested that I come for Evening Prayer, and as I walked down the entry hall, the tones of Sacred Chant emanated from the chapel and drew me into a time and atmosphere of prayer unlike any I had experienced. At once I was aware of an ancient yet modern sung prayer that touched my heart & soul with melodies and words woven together that somehow evoked an overwhelming sense of God’s grace and peace within and around me.

I asked, what is this prayer and who are these monks of Taizé who put it all together in the first place? (reflections from a retreatant)

It was in the 1940’s that Brother Roger first prayed in Taizé France as he searched for a place to found a place to build a community of brothers united in peace, reconciliation, and prayer. Today the community has grown to almost 100 brothers, some of whom live with the poor in Haiti, India, England, the United States, and in several other countries. The chants that the brothers compose and sing are used in their worship and by communities around the globe to pray and praise God. For more Information, visit the Taize Web Site.
